Woman Charged After Allegedly Beating Planet Fitness Employee Over Noise Complaint
Woman charged for beating gym employee over noise

A shocking incident at a Miami gym has led to criminal charges after a member allegedly assaulted an employee who asked her to lower her voice. The violent encounter, which left the staff member with significant injuries, underscores the extreme reactions that can erupt in everyday settings.

Details of the Violent Confrontation

The altercation occurred on December 12 at a Planet Fitness location. According to an arrest report obtained by WFOR, the gym member, identified as 35-year-old Kiara Bryant, was in a locker room when an employee told her she could not yell inside the facility.

The situation quickly escalated when Bryant allegedly got in the employee's face. The arrest report states the male employee "pushed her back and away from him… in self-defence twice" as Bryant continued to act aggressively with her fists balled. The confrontation did not end there.

Bryant then chased the employee, jumped over the service counter, and punched him "repeatedly" in the face, according to police accounts. Following the attack, she exited the gym but was detained by bystanders in the parking lot until law enforcement arrived.

Aftermath and Legal Repercussions

Officers responding to a call about a woman "running without clothing" found Bryant in the parking lot allegedly yelling profanities and "attempting to fight everyone." She was subsequently arrested.

Bryant now faces two misdemeanour charges: battery and disorderly conduct in an establishment. Her bond was set at $150. However, the victim's lawyer, Alecsander Kohn, argues the charges should be more severe.

"She took things too far, brutally battered our client, and ultimately left him in the hospital with a broken nose and severe emotional distress," Kohn told the outlet. "This would be a case of felony battery. Hopefully, through some strong advocacy, there will be a modification of the charges to reflect the severity of the injuries he sustained."

Corporate Response and Safety Concerns

In the wake of the attack, Planet Fitness issued a firm statement emphasizing their commitment to safety. "The safety of our employees and members is our top priority and we have zero tolerance for violence of any kind in our clubs," the statement read.

The company further noted that the franchise group had cooperated with local police and had cancelled the membership of the individual involved. This incident highlights the challenges faced by service industry workers who enforce basic rules of conduct.

Video of the aftermath shows Bryant telling the injured employee, "Don't you ever hit a woman!" despite the arrest report's indication that the employee's initial contact was a defensive push. The case continues to develop as legal proceedings move forward.
