Windsor police have concluded a six-month-long investigation with the arrest of a suspect connected to a commercial break-and-enter. The arrest was made on December 11, bringing closure to a case that began in late spring.
Details of the Break-In and Investigation
The incident under investigation occurred on May 31 at a commercial property located in the 4100 block of 7th Concession Road. According to police reports, a masked male suspect exited a black GMC Arcadia, used bolt cutters to break a gate lock, and entered the compound. An accomplice remained in the vehicle during the incident.
The primary suspect allegedly stole a black enclosed trailer from the property. Following the theft, patrol officers were able to track the vehicle to a residence in the 2000 block of Ottawa Street.
Evidence Recovery and Warrant Execution
On June 2, members of the Windsor Police Service's target base unit executed a search warrant at the identified residence and vehicle. The search proved fruitful, leading to the recovery of the stolen trailer. Investigators also seized other critical pieces of evidence, including a pair of bolt cutters and a black balaclava.
Through persistent investigative work following the warrant, police identified a 50-year-old male as the primary suspect in the case.
Arrest and Charges Laid
The investigation culminated on the morning of December 11, at approximately 10 a.m., when officers arrested the suspect at a residence in the 1400 block of Erie Street East.
The man now faces multiple criminal charges, including:
- Break-and-enter into a place other than a dwelling
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Wearing a disguise to commit an offence
- Two counts of failure to comply with a release order
