Windsor police have laid a charge of sexual assault against a 31-year-old man following an investigation into an alleged attack on a minor.

Investigation Launched After Teen Reports Assault

The Windsor Police Service's Major Crimes Unit began its investigation on December 30, 2025, after a 17-year-old teenager reported being sexually assaulted. According to a police news release issued on Friday, January 2, 2026, the incident occurred the prior evening.

Police stated that the teen and a friend, also a youth, had been consuming alcohol at the residence of an adult male acquaintance. During the evening, the victim became incapacitated. The young woman reported regaining consciousness while the sexual assault was in progress.

Swift Arrest by ROPE Squad

After leaving the residence the following morning, the victim reported the incident to authorities. Investigators quickly identified a suspect.

Shortly before 4:00 p.m. on December 31, 2025, members of the Ontario Provincial Police's Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad located and arrested the 31-year-old suspect at a property in the 400 block of Wyandotte Street West in Windsor.

The ROPE Squad is a specialized provincial task force focused on tracking and arresting high-risk offenders, parole violators, and individuals who have breached bail or release conditions.

Charges Laid and Support Resources

The Windsor man now faces a formal charge of sexual assault. The police have not released his name to protect the identity of the victim.
