Edmonton police have launched an investigation into a tragic house fire that claimed the life of a two-year-old boy in the city's northeast Clareview Village neighborhood. The blaze, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, November 28, 2025, also sent four other occupants to hospital, leaving an infant girl fighting for her life in critical condition.

Fire Breaks Out in Early Morning Hours

According to authorities, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to the residential townhouse fire just after 2 a.m. on November 28. Upon arrival, crews discovered seven people inside the home: three adults and four children. Police were contacted by fire officials regarding the incident, leading to an immediate joint investigation.

Tragically, emergency responders were unable to save the young boy, who was declared dead at the scene. The other victims were rushed to area hospitals with varying degrees of injury.

Victims Hospitalized with Serious Injuries

The most gravely injured survivor is an infant girl, who sustained life-threatening injuries. She remains hospitalized in critical condition, according to the Edmonton Police Service update issued on Wednesday, December 3.

The other victims include:

  • An eight-year-old girl, who was treated and subsequently released from hospital.
  • A woman, who suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital.
  • A man, who was taken to hospital and has since been released.
  • A ten-year-old girl, who was treated for her injuries at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Police Investigation Underway

The Edmonton Police Service is now working closely with fire investigators to determine the cause of the deadly blaze. Police are specifically investigating the circumstances surrounding the two-year-old's death as part of their standard procedure for such incidents.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, and officials are examining the townhouse unit for clues. Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the probe.
