Two Toronto Men Face Charges After Alleged Failed Robbery in Kleinburg
York Regional Police have charged two men from Toronto in connection with an alleged failed robbery attempt that unfolded in Kleinburg, Ontario. The incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, involved a suspicious vehicle call at a commercial plaza near Islington Avenue and Stegman's Mill Road.
Details of the Alleged Robbery Attempt
According to police reports, the complainant alerted authorities around 1 p.m. after observing a grey Honda CRV with two occupants wearing ski masks entering the parking lot. The vehicle hastily fled the scene when the complainant approached it. Investigators were subsequently gathering information inside a commercial unit when the same vehicle returned and parked directly in front of the establishment.
Officers quickly responded and contained the vehicle, but the occupants escaped on foot. A brief foot pursuit led to the arrest of one suspect, while the second was apprehended after being found hiding in a nearby backyard shed, with assistance from canine and air support units.
Charges and Investigation Updates
No injuries were reported during the incident. The vehicle involved was identified as having been stolen from Toronto on February 8. York Regional Police have released photographs of the suspects, who are believed to be connected to similar incidents in the area.
The accused, identified as Joshua Adams, 22, and Anthony Mitchell, 24, both face charges including:
- One count of attempted robbery
- One count of disguise with intent
- One count of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
