A 35-year-old woman is now standing trial at Saskatoon Court of King's Bench in connection with the killing of Alberta man Lee Perkins. Chantal Lee McLaren faces charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder and committing an indignity to human remains. The trial, which commenced this week, is being heard by a judge and jury and is expected to span 14 days.
Details of the Charges
McLaren's involvement allegedly occurred after the death of 25-year-old Lee Perkins on February 3, 2024. Perkins' body was discovered in a home on the 600 block of Lisgar Avenue while police were executing a search warrant related to an aggravated assault involving a firearm. This incident marked Saskatoon's first homicide of 2024.
Co-Accused and Publication Ban
Evidence presented at McLaren's trial is subject to a publication ban, ordered to protect the integrity of the trial of her co-accused, Edin Dion Vrazalica. Vrazalica was charged with first-degree murder and indignity to human remains after allegedly attempting to flee during the police search and being shot by an officer. His trial is scheduled for November.
McLaren's Bail Conditions
McLaren has been out on bail since May 2024. Her release conditions include electronic monitoring, a restriction to remain within 50 kilometers of Saskatoon for court appearances, surrender of her passport, and a prohibition on using drugs and alcohol.
