Toronto Police Launch Manhunt for Suspect in West End Sexual Assault
Toronto Police have initiated a widespread search for a sexual predator following a violent attack on a jogger in the city's west end on Monday night. The incident occurred in the area of Bloor Street West and St. Helens Avenue, just west of Lansdowne Avenue, shortly before 10 p.m. on April 6, 2026.
Details of the Assault
According to police statements released on Wednesday, the victim was jogging in the vicinity when the attacker approached from behind and committed a sexual assault. The assailant then fled the scene, heading south on St. Helens Avenue. Authorities have not disclosed the gender of the jogger, maintaining privacy for the victim.
Investigators have distributed an image of a suspect, whose gender also remains unspecified, in hopes that public recognition will lead to identification. The suspect is described as approximately 5-foot-6 with a skinny build. At the time of the attack, they were wearing a black hooded sweater with the hood up, a face covering, and black pants.
Appeal for Information
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or whereabouts to come forward. Additionally, they are seeking video footage from the area of Bloor Street West between Symington Avenue and St. Helens Avenue on April 6 between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tips can be provided by calling police at 416-808-1100 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Other Incidents in the Greater Toronto Area
In a separate tragic event, a 77-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a street in Ajax on Tuesday night. Durham Regional Police responded to the pedestrian-involved collision in the area of Westney Road South and Bramwell Drive, north of Highway 401, around 10:10 p.m.
The victim, who suffered serious life-threatening injuries, was transported to a Toronto hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Hyundai sedan, a 22-year-old female, remained at the scene and was not injured. The Collision Investigation Unit is actively investigating the cause of this incident.
Meanwhile, in Georgina, north of Keswick, a house and vehicle were damaged by gunfire early Wednesday morning. York Regional Police responded to reports of gunshots on Clarlyn Drive near Lake Drive North just before 4:20 a.m. No injuries were reported, and investigators believe the house was the intended target, with no ongoing threat to public safety. Authorities are appealing for surveillance or dashcam footage to assist in the investigation.
