Toronto Police Charge Three in Violent North York Home Invasion, Seek Two More

Toronto Police have announced charges against three people in connection with a violent home invasion investigation in North York, with two additional suspects still being sought. The incident occurred early Monday morning, highlighting ongoing concerns about property crimes in the area.

Details of the Home Invasion Incident

According to police reports, officers responded to a robbery call at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Monday in the Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue East area. A group of five masked suspects allegedly approached the victim's residence in a vehicle, forced entry into the home, and assaulted the homeowner with a weapon. The suspects then obtained a set of car keys, with one fleeing in the victim's vehicle while the others left in the same vehicle they arrived in.

The getaway vehicle was involved in a crash near the scene of the break-in, prompting the suspects to flee on foot. Police officers pursued them, resulting in the arrest of three individuals after a foot chase. The victim sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Charges and Suspect Information

The three individuals charged include two adults and one youth. Waheed Rahmati, 22, of Richmond Hill, faces multiple charges, such as assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, and robbery with an offensive weapon. Camyar Zandinia, 20, of East Gwillimbury, has been charged with similar offences, including assault with a weapon and possession of property obtained by crime.

A 17-year-old male from Toronto, whose identity is protected under youth criminal justice laws, has been charged with numerous counts related to the incident. Police have not released descriptions for the two outstanding suspects and are urging the public to come forward with any information.

Additional Police Investigation: Project Neptune

In a separate but related development, Toronto Police have also charged two men in an account takeover and phishing investigation known as Project Neptune. Between May 2025 and December 2025, victims were contacted by individuals posing as Toronto Police and financial institution employees, deceiving them into handing over debit cards under false pretences.

The suspects allegedly used these cards to withdraw large sums of money and make fraudulent purchases. On February 25, officers executed search warrants, seizing items such as cellphones, laptops, and gift cards. Chidike Watts, 20, and Ehinosen Caleb Ehikhuemen, 19, both of Toronto, face multiple charges including fraud and personation with intent.

Community Response and Safety Measures

Authorities are emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in combating such crimes. Residents are advised to report any suspicious activities and secure their properties to prevent similar incidents. The Toronto Police have provided contact numbers for tips, including an anonymous option through Crime Stoppers.

This case underscores the broader challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing violent crimes and fraud in urban areas. As investigations continue, police are working to ensure public safety and hold perpetrators accountable through the justice system.
