Tragic Crash Claims Life of Mississippi Mills Teen
A late-night single-vehicle collision near Pakenham has resulted in the death of an 18-year-old passenger and serious criminal charges for the 17-year-old driver. The Ontario Provincial Police confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred just before midnight on Monday, December 16.
Emergency Response on the 8th Concession
Officers from the Lanark County OPP detachment were dispatched to the scene on the 8th Concession of South Pakenham, near Cedar Hill Sideroad. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim situation: one passenger was trapped inside the vehicle. The driver and another passenger had managed to exit the car on their own.
Firefighters from the Mississippi Mills Fire Department worked to extricate the trapped individual. Despite immediate and extensive life-saving efforts administered by Lanark County Paramedics at the scene, the young man, an 18-year-old resident of Mississippi Mills Township, was pronounced dead a short time later.
Driver Faces Serious Impaired Driving Charges
The two other occupants, who sustained minor injuries, were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The investigation led police to arrest the 17-year-old male driver at the scene.
He now faces multiple charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, including:
- Impaired driving causing death
- Impaired driving causing bodily harm
- Driving while impaired
In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the accused youth has not been released to the public. The OPP confirmed the teenager was later released from custody under specific conditions and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth in January.

The fatal crash has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Pakenham, located approximately 60 kilometres west of Ottawa. The incident serves as a devastating reminder of the potentially fatal consequences of impaired driving, particularly among young drivers.
