Teen Accused in Fatal Hit-and-Run Also Charged with Impaired Driving

The 19-year-old man charged in the death of crossing guard Peter Clark is now facing an additional impaired driving charge in Brockville, adding to the legal proceedings following the tragic incident.

Court Appearances and Plea Details

Xzander Wright was scheduled to enter a plea on the impaired driving charge on Friday, March 27, in a Brockville courtroom, as per court records. On the same day, he appeared remotely in an Ottawa courthouse, where he has been charged with failing to stop after an accident causing death.

His lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, confirmed the impaired driving charges in Brockville and stated that Wright pleaded not guilty. A trial date has been set, although Greenspon could not specify the next court appearance as he is not representing Wright in that particular matter. It is important to note that the charge has not yet been tested in court.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The crossing guard, Peter Clark, was struck on the morning of Monday, March 23, while working at the intersection of Cedarview Road and Kennevale Drive in Barrhaven, near Mary Honeywell Elementary School. He sustained life-threatening injuries and later died in the hospital.

Following the collision, police issued a public plea for assistance in locating a dark-coloured pickup truck that had fled the scene. The next day, authorities blocked a driveway with a black Toyota Tundra, which had a damaged driver’s side mirror and was found just steps from the school. The truck featured a "HAIL SATAN" decal on the windshield and "police seal" stickers on the doors, and police confirmed it was connected to the hit-and-run investigation.

Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Wright was charged on Tuesday with fleeing the scene of the fatal crash. He is expected to return to an Ottawa court on March 31 for a bail hearing, as the case continues to unfold in the judicial system.
