York Regional Police have made a significant arrest in a January homicide case in Vaughan, Ontario, while continuing their search for a second suspect linked to multiple violent incidents. The developments highlight ongoing efforts to address gun violence in the region.
Arrest in Remote Northern Ontario
On Thursday, officers from the OPP James Bay detachment located and apprehended Jacob "Baby Face" Wallace, a 19-year-old resident of Mississauga, in the remote town of Moosonee in northern Ontario. Wallace has been charged with first-degree murder and arson causing damage to property in connection with the death of Sergio Lopes.
Police allege that Wallace served as the getaway driver in the targeted shooting, which occurred on January 26 at a commercial plaza near Winges and Rowntree Dairy Roads in Vaughan. A black SUV believed to be involved was later found burned on Kipling Avenue north of Woodbridge Avenue.
Victim Remembered as Loving Family Man
The victim, 65-year-old Sergio Lopes of Richmond Hill, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the hospital. In his obituary, Lopes was described as a loving father, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend, known for his warm hugs and positive impact on those around him.
Authorities emphasize that the shooting was targeted, though motives remain under investigation as part of the broader homicide inquiry.
Second Suspect Still Wanted Nationwide
Meanwhile, police are actively searching for Isaiah Thomas Badger, also 19 and from Edmonton, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the same charges related to Lopes' death. Badger is additionally sought in connection with a second fatal shooting on February 7 in the parking lot of Woodbine Shopping Centre in Rexdale.
In that incident, 37-year-old Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar of Brampton was shot and later died in hospital. Badger is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is urged not to approach him but to contact authorities immediately if spotted.

York Regional Police are calling on anyone with information about Badger's whereabouts to come forward.
