Surrey Police Service is investigating another shooting they believe is connected to a troubling pattern of extortion-related crime in Metro Vancouver. The incident occurred in the Panorama Ridge neighbourhood early Thursday morning.
Shooting Details and Police Response
Police were called to the 13400-block of 56th Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. on January 15, 2026, following reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find a residence and a vehicle that had been struck by bullets. Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.
The Surrey Police Service confirmed that investigators are treating this as part of an ongoing series of extortion-related crimes plaguing the region. The location is notably not far from the scene of a fatal fire earlier in the week, adding to local concerns.
Connection to Recent Violent Crime
This shooting follows a deadly incident just days earlier in the same neighbourhood. On Monday, January 12, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called to the 12700-block of 56th Avenue after Surrey firefighters discovered a man's body inside a burned-out home.
While police did not officially release the victim's name, Postmedia reporter Kim Bolan identified him as Naseem Ali Mohammed, a reported member of the Brothers Keepers gang and a suspected hitman. The proximity and timing of the two events have heightened police scrutiny of the area.
Appeal for Public Information
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the early Thursday shooting to come forward. They are particularly interested in CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident.
Individuals can contact the Surrey Police Service directly at 604-599-0502. To provide information anonymously, the public is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The repeated violence in Surrey's Panorama Ridge community underscores the persistent challenge police face in combating organized extortion schemes, which increasingly involve targeted shootings at properties.
