Saskatoon Police Investigate Third and Fourth Homicides of 2026
Saskatoon police are currently investigating two separate deaths, which have been classified as the city's third and fourth homicides for the year 2026. These incidents involve a 61-year-old woman discovered deceased in a house fire and a 39-year-old man who succumbed to his injuries, both cases being treated as unrelated criminal acts.
Details of the Third Homicide
On April 3, 2026, emergency services, including fire crews and police, were dispatched to a residential structure fire located in the 400 block of Avenue I South in Saskatoon. According to official reports, firefighters successfully extracted a 61-year-old woman from the burning home. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Following an initial assessment, police have determined her death to be a homicide, prompting the involvement of the major crimes unit in an ongoing investigation.
Details of the Fourth Homicide
In a separate incident, on Monday, April 8, 2026, officers responded to a report of an injured individual in the 500 block of Avenue X South around 3:45 a.m. Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive 39-year-old man. He was promptly transported to a hospital by Medavie Health Services West, where he was later pronounced dead. This death is also being investigated as a homicide, marking the fourth such case in Saskatoon for the year.
Context of Previous Homicides in 2026
These latest investigations follow two earlier homicides in Saskatoon this year. The second homicide occurred on March 14, 2026, when a 49-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 900 block of 22nd Street West. He later died in the hospital. In connection with this case, a 17-year-old boy is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder.
The first homicide of 2026 involved Albert Scott, 26, who has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault. This investigation began on February 3, 2026, after two 25-year-old men arrived at St. Paul's Hospital in the early morning hours with stab wounds. One of the men subsequently died from his injuries.
Police continue to urge anyone with information related to these cases to come forward as investigations proceed.
