Saskatoon police have laid criminal charges against a local man following an investigation into hateful comments directed at Jewish people on the internet. The case highlights ongoing law enforcement efforts to combat online hatred.
Charges Laid After 2024 Investigation
According to the Saskatoon Police Service, the investigation was initiated in 2024 after they received a formal complaint. The report concerned an individual who was allegedly posting anti-Semitic comments online.
The police force's dedicated Hate Crime Unit took on the case. Investigators worked to identify the person behind the comments, which led them to a 45-year-old Saskatoon resident.
Arrest and Seizure of Evidence
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, December 18, 2025. As part of their investigation, officers executed a search warrant at the man's home.
During the search, police seized what they described as "digital evidence" related to the online activity. They also confiscated a firearm from the residence.
Brandon Taylor Moore, the 45-year-old accused, now faces two criminal charges. The primary charge is for wilfully promoting hatred against an identifiable group, specifically Jewish people, under the Criminal Code provision for inciting public hatred.
A second charge of unsafe storage of a firearm was also added following the discovery of the gun during the search.
Court Appearance and Ongoing Process
Moore made his first court appearance on Thursday morning, December 19, 2025, at Saskatoon Provincial Court. The matter is now before the justice system.
This case serves as a reminder that comments made on digital platforms can have serious real-world legal consequences. Canadian law treats hate propaganda as a serious offence, with provisions aimed at protecting groups from being targeted by hatred.
The Saskatoon Police Service has not released further specifics about the nature of the online comments or the platforms on which they were made, citing the ongoing judicial process.
