Windsor Police Resolve Barricaded Individual Incident on Byng Road
Police take barricaded individual into custody in Windsor

A significant police operation unfolded in a Windsor neighbourhood on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a barricaded individual inside a residence.

Major Police Presence on Byng Road

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, Windsor Police Service alerted the public to an active investigation in the Devonshire Heights area. Authorities advised residents to avoid the vicinity of Byng Road, which was closed between Foster Avenue and Lappan Avenue.

A Windsor police spokesperson confirmed to the Windsor Star that emergency crews had converged on the scene in response to the situation. The police presence was substantial, with a Windsor Star photographer observing approximately one dozen police cruisers at the location around 3:30 p.m.

Specialized Units and Resolution

Multiple specialized units were deployed to handle the incident. Members of the Windsor Police Emergency Services Unit (ESU) were on location, along with a K-9 officer. Several Essex-Windsor EMS paramedic vehicles and a Windsor Fire & Rescue Services truck were also present at various points during the response.

The situation was resolved peacefully. The individual was taken into police custody, according to an official statement. Following the resolution, the roadway was reopened to traffic around 4:30 p.m.

Context and Ongoing Investigation

This incident follows another serious police encounter earlier in the year. In September, police responded to a barricaded individual in the Remington Park neighbourhood, which resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) probed that case.

Regarding the December 17th incident on Byng Road, a Windsor Police Service spokesperson indicated that more information will be released once the investigation concludes. The police have not disclosed any details about the individual in custody or what prompted the initial call.

The swift response and containment of the situation by Windsor Police and partner agencies ensured public safety in the Devonshire Heights community, with normal traffic flow restored by the late afternoon.
