Pizza Delivery Drivers Targeted in Coordinated Vehicle Thefts

Windsor police have launched an investigation into two separate vehicle thefts that specifically targeted pizza delivery drivers on the city's west side. The incidents occurred during late evening hours last week, raising concerns about coordinated criminal activity targeting food delivery professionals.

First Incident: Stolen Minivan Abandoned After Erratic Driving

According to police reports, the first theft occurred around 11:30 p.m. on November 20. Officers responded to calls about a minivan being driven erratically and later discovered the vehicle abandoned in the 3300 block of College Avenue. The investigation revealed the minivan had been stolen from a delivery driver just moments earlier in the 100 block of St. Joseph Street.

Police detailed that one or more suspects approached the driver while they were making a delivery, entered the unattended minivan, and drove away. A second suspect who had flagged down the driver to receive the pizza order fled the scene on foot.

Second Theft: Similar Pattern Hours Later

Approximately four hours after the first incident, police were called to another nearly identical theft in the 3300 block of Millen Street. In this case, a second pizza delivery driver was completing a delivery when two suspects entered their vehicle and drove off. Once again, a third suspect who had flagged down the driver escaped on foot.

Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported in either incident, though both drivers were left without their vehicles and likely traumatized by the experience.

Recovery and Damage to Stolen Vehicle

Police located the second stolen vehicle near Prince Road and Wells Street at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday, November 21. The car had been abandoned following a single-vehicle collision that resulted in significant damage. The vehicle had struck a fence and light pole, causing heavy damage to the front end.

Investigators are now asking residents in the affected areas to review any surveillance or dash-cam footage from overnight November 20 to 21 that might contain evidence helpful to the investigation.

Police Safety Recommendations for Drivers

Windsor police are reminding all community members to remain vigilant about vehicle security. Authorities emphasize two critical safety measures:

  • Always lock your vehicle when unattended
  • Never leave your vehicle running while unoccupied, even for brief moments

These precautions are particularly important for delivery drivers and others who frequently make quick stops during their work shifts.
