A 33-year-old Ottawa man is in custody following a serious hit-and-run collision in the city's Vanier neighbourhood last month that left a female pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.
Charges Laid After Fleeing the Scene
Ottawa police announced the arrest on Monday, December 29, 2025. The man, whose identity was not released by authorities, has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision resulting in bodily harm. He also faces a charge for not having a valid driver's licence at the time of the incident.
The collision occurred on the morning of Thursday, December 18, 2025, near the intersection of McArthur and Lafontaine avenues. According to police, a red Dodge minivan struck the woman while she was walking on the sidewalk just before 10 a.m. The driver then fled the area.
Victim in Hospital with Serious Injuries
The pedestrian, a woman, was transported to hospital with what were initially described as critical but stable injuries. In their most recent update, police stated her injuries are considered serious. The investigation by the Ottawa Police Service's Fatal Collision Investigation Unit remains active.
Following the incident, police had appealed to the public for help locating the minivan. The accused man appeared in court on December 19, the day after the collision.
