The incident, which unfolded during a police officer's regular patrol, has resulted in charges of dangerous driving and failure to stop for police.
Details of the High-Speed Incident
According to the Ottawa Police Service, a neighbourhood resource officer was on duty when they observed a white BMW committing multiple infractions under the Highway Traffic Act. When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply and instead accelerated away at high velocity.
Police reports indicate the vehicle was weaving aggressively between lanes and even utilizing a bus lane during the escape attempt. The pursuit reached speeds surpassing 145 km/h, creating a significant hazard on the busy highway. Following the incident, the vehicle was discovered abandoned in a nearby location.
Investigation Leads to Arrest
Through subsequent investigation, authorities were able to identify the 23-year-old driver involved in the December incident. The suspect was taken into custody on December 31st and now faces two criminal charges:
