Ontario Police Association Opens Nominations for 11th Annual Hero Awards
The Police Association of Ontario has officially launched the nomination period for its prestigious Police Services Hero of the Year awards, now in their eleventh year. From February 2nd through March 6th, residents across the province are encouraged to recognize police officers and civilian employees who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to community safety and service.
Celebrating a Decade of Recognizing Police Excellence
"We're proud to celebrate more than a decade of the Police Services Hero of the Year Awards program, which recognizes the extraordinary, above and beyond work our members do every day," stated association president Mark Baxter in an official news release. "The program continues to give well-deserved recognition to the exceptional service of Ontario's sworn and civilian police personnel."
The awards program represents a significant opportunity for community members to acknowledge law enforcement professionals who consistently exceed expectations in their duties and community engagement.
Five Distinct Award Categories for Recognition
The awards program features five distinct categories designed to recognize various forms of exceptional service:
- On-Duty Difference Maker Awards: Two separate awards—one for uniformed officers and another for civilian police service employees—honoring those who have gone above and beyond job expectations while performing their regular duties.
- Extra Mile Award: Recognizing either an officer or civilian employee who has performed a one-time extraordinary act of kindness or bravery while off duty.
- Community Role Model Award: Honoring an officer or civilian employee who, during their personal time, has made a notable difference or contribution over a prolonged period.
- Police Hero Honour Roll Award: Acknowledging an officer or civilian employee who has made a significant impact over the past decade through their service and dedication.
Nomination Process and Ceremony Details
Community members who know a police officer or civilian employee deserving of recognition can submit nominations through the official program website. The nomination window remains open until March 6th, providing ample time for residents to prepare and submit their recommendations.
Award recipients will be formally announced during the association's annual general meeting at the president's banquet and awards ceremony scheduled for May 28th in Windsor. This event serves as a culminating celebration of police excellence across Ontario.
The Police Association of Ontario emphasizes that these awards highlight the often-overlooked contributions of both sworn officers and civilian staff who work tirelessly to maintain public safety and strengthen community relationships throughout the province.
