Law enforcement agencies in the United States are urgently requesting public assistance to locate a new individual connected to the deadly mass shooting at Brown University this past weekend. The Providence Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have released fresh images and video footage of a person they describe as a suspect.
New Images and Description Released
On Monday afternoon, authorities disseminated visuals showing an individual captured on camera prior to the violent incident. The person is seen wearing a dark blue jacket and pants, a dark beanie, and a black face mask. The FBI's flyer describes the suspect as a male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a stocky build.
The video clips and images were recorded on Saturday, December 13, 2025, around 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, just before the shooting erupted on the Ivy League campus. Officials are asking anyone with information, or who may have captured their own video or photos of the shooter, to come forward immediately.
Substantial Reward and Public Appeal
To incentivize tips, the FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of this individual. Information can be submitted to a dedicated tipline at 401-272-3121 or through the FBI's online portal.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Ted Docks emphasized the critical role of community assistance during a press briefing. "No amount of information is too small or irrelevant," Docks stated. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha expressed hope that investigators would see significant progress within the next 24 to 36 hours.
Investigation Shifts After First Person Cleared
This new development comes after authorities released and cleared an initial person of interest who was detained shortly after the shooting. That individual was let go early Monday, partly because firearms recovered from his hotel room did not match ballistic evidence from the crime scene, as reported by NBC News.
The shooting, which resulted in two fatalities and nine people wounded, has placed the investigation under intense scrutiny. FBI Director Kash Patel has faced criticism for prematurely announcing the detention of the first person of interest. Officials, however, have defended the investigative process.
Attorney General Neronha analogized the complex case to pulling threads on a garment. "Some of them you pull, and the garment doesn't open up, and other ones you pull, and the garment comes undone," he told reporters, underscoring the meticulous and evolving nature of the probe.
The combined forces of the Providence Police and the FBI continue their relentless pursuit of justice, relying heavily on public vigilance to help identify the individual now at the centre of the search.
