A Windsor man is facing serious charges after a lengthy police standoff in the city's Devonshire Heights neighbourhood on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Standoff Follows Reported Assault

The incident began around 1 p.m. when Windsor Police officers were called to a residence in the 3400 block of Byng Road for a report of an assault. According to police, one individual managed to flee the home after being assaulted and threatened by a male suspect. The victim sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police further allege that during the incident, the suspect threw the victim's dogs across a room and threatened to kill the animals.

Heavy Police Response and Surrender

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the man inside the residence, but he refused to come out. This prompted a significant police response to secure the area.

Police established a secure perimeter and called in specialized units, including the Emergency Services Unit and trained negotiators, to help resolve the situation safely. Authorities advised the public to avoid the area of Byng Road between Foster Avenue and Lappan Avenue.

The standoff lasted for approximately three hours. At around 4 p.m., the 40-year-old suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident. The affected roadway was reopened to traffic by approximately 4:30 p.m.
