Hamilton Police are appealing to the public for information following a shooting incident in the city's downtown core. The event, which involved gunfire but resulted in no reported injuries, is currently under active investigation.
Shots Fired on Main Street West
Officers were called to a parking lot at 160 Main St. W., between Hess and Caroline Streets, on Tuesday after reports of gunshots. Upon arrival, police located bullet casings at the scene, which was secured for forensic examination.
Authorities are now searching for two vehicles seen leaving the area: an SUV and a sedan. Hamilton Police urge anyone with information to contact them directly at 905-546-4725 or to provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Durham Region Incidents: Dune Buggy Crash Leads to Charges
In a separate series of events in the Durham Region, police have laid charges following a serious single-vehicle collision. Durham Regional Police responded to a crash on a dirt road trail in the Clarington Concession Rd. 10 and Bowmanville Ave. area on September 10 at approximately 9:25 p.m..
The incident involved a dune buggy that rolled over after the driver lost control. Two adult male occupants were transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later airlifted to a trauma centre in the Greater Toronto Area. Both men are now reported in stable condition.
Logan Renton, 39, of Scugog, faces charges of impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm and impaired operation exceeding the legal limit. Police indicate speed was a factor, and the investigation remains open.
Firearm Discharge and Robbery in Oshawa
Durham police also dealt with a firearms incident in Oshawa. On Tuesday evening, officers responded to a residence in the Beatrice St. E. and Grandview St. N. area after homeowners reported hearing a loud bang and subsequently found a bullet inside.
Investigation revealed a visiting male had allegedly discharged a handgun inside the home before fleeing on foot. Police identified the suspect and arrested him at his residence without incident. A search warrant executed at the home allegedly yielded two handguns, a rifle, and ammunition.
Liam Miler, 21, of Oshawa, is charged with four firearm-related offences, with additional charges anticipated. No physical injuries were reported.
In a related Oshawa incident, police are searching for a suspect following a commercial robbery at a gas station on 800 Taunton Rd. W. on Monday night. A suspect entered the station, demanded money and cigarettes, and assaulted an employee who refused. The employee was not injured, and the suspect fled before police arrived.
Durham Regional Police continue to investigate all these matters and encourage anyone with information, including cellphone, dashcam, or surveillance footage, to come forward.
