Hamilton man charged in historical sex assault case

Hamilton Police have arrested and charged a 63-year-old local man in connection with a disturbing investigation into historical sexual offences that allegedly occurred over a period of three decades.

Charges Laid After Month-Long Investigation

John Duncan, of Hamilton, was arrested at a local business and now faces serious criminal charges, including two counts of sexual assault and one count of committing an indecent act. The investigation, launched earlier this month by the police sex crimes unit, focuses on incidents that are believed to have taken place over the past 30 years.

Authorities have confirmed that two victims have been identified so far, but investigators strongly suspect there may be additional individuals who have not yet come forward. The police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist with the ongoing case.

Police Seek Potential Additional Victims

Detective Paul Cottrill of the sex crimes unit is leading the investigation and is urging anyone with relevant information to contact police directly. Duncan is described as a white male, 5-foot-8 in height, with a medium build and grey hair.

Hamilton Police have provided multiple channels for people to share information:

  • Contact Det. Paul Cottrill at 905-540-5544
  • Call the sex crimes unit non-emergency line at 905-540-5553
  • Submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppershamilton.com

Separate School Fight Leads to Weapons Charges

In an unrelated incident, Hamilton Police also responded to a violent altercation at Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School located at 1770 Upper Sherman Ave. The fight, which occurred on Monday, resulted in a 17-year-old male student being transported to hospital with arm injuries.

Police have charged two males, aged 16 and 19, with assault causing bodily harm. The 16-year-old suspect faces additional charges of possession of a prohibited weapon. Investigators believe other suspects, including both students and non-students, were involved in the attack and are continuing their investigation.

Anyone with information about the school incident is asked to contact the on-duty Division 30 staff sergeant at 905-546-3886 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
