Montreal police arson investigators have launched a probe after a commercial parking lot in the borough of St-Laurent was deliberately set on fire early Tuesday morning. This incident marks the second time in two years and the fifth time overall that the same business has been targeted by arsonists.
Early Morning Blaze
Authorities were alerted to the fire after a 911 call was received at 2:30 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene on Lebeau Blvd. near Gince St., they found that Montreal firefighters had already brought the flames under control.
A preliminary assessment revealed that 15 vehicles, all slated for resale, sustained significant fire damage. Fortunately, a commercial building located nearby was not harmed in the blaze.
A Troubling Pattern of Attacks
According to police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils, this is not an isolated event for the business. A similar arson attack occurred at the same location in 2023, during which four cars were torched. At that time, investigators noted it was already the fourth time the company had been victimized by arson.
The recurrence of these incidents has raised serious concerns for local authorities and the business owner.
Ongoing Investigation
In their quest for answers, Montreal police stated they will be examining local surveillance camera footage to identify the individuals responsible and determine the precise circumstances that led to the latest fire.
The investigation remains active as police work to piece together the events of the early morning and find those accountable for this destructive act.
