Major Drug Bust in Southeast Edmonton Nets Over $100,000 in Narcotics and Firearm
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Edmonton Police Service officers have confiscated more than $100,000 worth of illicit substances from a residence in the city's southeast quadrant. The operation, which culminated in the Woodvale neighborhood, also resulted in the recovery of a handgun and a substantial amount of cash.
Month-Long Investigation Leads to Substantial Seizures
According to official statements released by the EPS, the investigation began in January when authorities received intelligence about potential drug trafficking activities at a home located near Woodvale Road and 38 Avenue. Following extensive surveillance and evidence gathering over several weeks, police executed a search warrant at the property.
The seized items include:
- 301 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $45,300
- 979 grams of methamphetamine valued at approximately $58,800
- 8.5 grams of crack cocaine worth about $720
- 1.63 liters of GHB with a street value of $1,630
- More than 200 assorted pills, including Tylenol 3s, winstrol, primboloan, and clenbuterol
- Two vials of testosterone
In addition to the narcotics, investigators discovered a 9 millimeter handgun and approximately $4,600 in cash at the scene.
Arrest Made and Charges Filed
The operation led to the arrest of 46-year-old Mitchele Ernest Zorget, who now faces multiple charges. These include possession for the purpose of trafficking as well as several firearms-related offences. The arrest underscores the EPS's ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime and enhance public safety across Edmonton.
EPS Staff Sgt. Ahmed Alkarout emphasized the broader impact of such operations, stating, "Residences like these not only greatly impact the perception of safety in neighborhoods, they often target the community's most vulnerable. As the EPS continues to work to curb drug use and disorder across the city, the hard work of our Northeast BEATs team will certainly have positive impacts on safety in the Woodvale neighborhood."
