In a shocking incident that has rattled the Brampton community, a man in his twenties and a teenage boy were fatally shot on Friday night on the property of St. Joachim Elementary School. Police Respond to School Grounds Shooting

Peel Regional Police officers rushed to the scene near Rutherford Road and Weybridge Trail, east of Kennedy Road North, after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered the two victims who had been struck by bullets during what authorities describe as a targeted altercation.

"There was some sort of altercation that occurred in the school grounds with several individuals," Constable Laurie McCann explained to reporters gathered at St. Joachim Elementary School on Saturday. "Following that, a firearm or firearms were discharged and two victims were hit."

Victims Flee Scene Before Collapsing

According to police accounts, one of the victims attempted to escape the violence but collapsed a short distance from the initial shooting location. Despite emergency response efforts, both individuals – identified only as a man in his twenties and a male youth – were pronounced dead at the scene.

The entire school property remained cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape throughout Saturday as investigators meticulously gathered evidence and canvassed the surrounding residential neighborhood. The crime scene was described as "still very active" by authorities.

Investigation Underway with No Suspects in Custody

As of Saturday, no arrests had been made in connection with the double homicide, and police had not released any suspect descriptions. The perpetrators fled the area before officers arrived, and investigators remain uncertain whether they escaped on foot or by vehicle.

"This is not a random act, and I can't say 100%, but it appears to be a targeted incident," McCann emphasized during the press briefing. Homicide detectives have now taken over the investigation, working to piece together the events that led to the tragic shooting.

Community Appeal for Information

Police are urgently requesting assistance from the public as they work to solve this case. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who might have witnessed the incident or captured relevant footage.

"We have officers and investigators in the area canvassing for witnesses and gathering evidence," McCann stated. "We are asking anyone that may have been in the area at the time of the shooting or may have some video surveillance or dashcam video to please contact police."

The shooting marks another violent incident in the Peel Region, coming just months after other high-profile cases in the area. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice and provide answers to grieving families and a concerned community.
