In a significant crackdown on organized crime, Calgary police have laid almost 70 charges against two men linked to a series of break-ins at seven local stores. The investigation, which culminated in a search of a home in the Marlborough neighborhood, resulted in the seizure of a handgun, drugs including fentanyl, meth, and cocaine, and stolen property valued at thousands of dollars.
Extensive Search and Seizure Operation
On February 11, officers from the District 4 Break and Enter Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of 42 Street N.E. During the operation, police confiscated approximately $35,000 worth of illicit substances, firearms, and items stolen from seven Calgary businesses over a three-week period from January 3 to January 26. The stolen property included three vehicles, bicycles, knives, gaming cards, and government identification documents.
Sophisticated Criminal Activity Uncovered
In addition to the stolen goods, authorities discovered devices used for creating fraudulent documents and duplicating FOB keys, along with a collection of vehicle keys. The break-ins, described as smash-and-grab incidents, caused substantial damage estimated at up to $30,000 to electronics, gaming, and liquidation stores across the city.
District 4 General Investigations Unit Staff Sgt. Keith Shufelt emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating, "This was a concerning series of break and enters that caused substantial loss and disruption to seven Calgary businesses. Through diligent investigative work, our officers were able to hold those responsible accountable, while recovering stolen property and removing dangerous weapons from the street."
