Calgary law enforcement agencies have struck a significant blow against drug trafficking in the city with two major operations in December, resulting in the seizure of more than a quarter-million dollars worth of narcotics, firearms, and cash.
Major Haul from Erin Woods Residence
On December 3, 2025, Calgary's ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams) organized crime unit, with support from the Calgary Police Service (CPS), executed a search warrant at a home in the Erin Woods community. The raid followed what authorities described as a 'short-term' investigation into suspected drug trafficking from the property.
The seizure was substantial. Police confiscated 2,149 grams of cocaine, 330 grams of methamphetamine, and 90 grams of MDMA. Also found were 12 tabs of LSD, 16 cartons of illegal cigarettes, and a significant quantity of a substance believed to be a cocaine buffing agent. In total, the drugs have an estimated street value exceeding $250,000. Officers also seized $12,117 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of crime.
"Drug trafficking threatens our community’s sense of safety," said ALERT Staff Sergeant Hayley Marquis. "In this instance police were able to act on criminal intelligence in a timely manner to put a stop to this drug activity."
Two individuals face multiple charges in connection with this bust. Leo-Ray Mariano, 32, and Jade Allen-Villacrusis, 26, are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking in illegal cigarettes, possession of proceeds of crime, and fraud. They were scheduled to appear in court on December 17.
Second Bust Targets Dealers Near Drop-In Centre
In a separate investigation, Calgary police targeted suspected drug dealing in the area of Dermot Baldwin Way S.E., near the Calgary Drop-In Centre—a location frequented by vulnerable and unhoused individuals. The investigation began in November 2025.
"Targeting vulnerable individuals where they need to access services, especially during cold weather, will not be tolerated," stated District 1 Inspector Jason Bobrowich. "It’s critical that we remain vigilant in protecting those who can’t protect themselves and our communities."
On December 9, members of the CPS Gun Violence Enforcement Team searched a residence in the 6000 block of Centre Street N.W., in the Thorncliff neighbourhood. The search yielded cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other drugs. Critically, officers also seized a handgun and ammunition from the home.
Charges Laid in Downtown Drug Operation
Two people were arrested in connection with this investigation. Abdilkaafi Ibrahim, 24, of Calgary, faces charges including firearms and drug trafficking offences, possession of the proceeds of crime, and breaching a release order. His court date was set for December 17.
Morningstar Moosomin, 21, also of Calgary, is charged with drug trafficking, breaching a release order, and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000. She made her first court appearance on December 16, 2025.
These coordinated operations underscore the ongoing efforts by Calgary police and provincial units to combat the distribution of dangerous substances like fentanyl and cocaine. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any suspected drug or gang activity to their local police service or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
