Police Search for Dark-Colored Ford F-150
Ottawa police are actively searching for a dark-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck believed to be involved in the collision. "Efforts to locate the involved vehicle are underway, and the investigation is ongoing," a police spokesperson stated. Authorities have confirmed that the victim, who was working as a crossing guard at the time, succumbed to his injuries after the driver fled the scene.
Community Concerns Over Speeding
Local councillor David Hill highlighted ongoing concerns among residents about speeding in the area, particularly along Cedarview Road. In response to safety issues, a stretch of Kennevale Drive was designated as a community safety zone last summer. This tragic event underscores the urgent need for enhanced traffic safety measures near schools, Hill emphasized.
Medical Response and Outcome
Ottawa paramedics reported that the crossing guard sustained life-threatening injuries at the scene. Despite being stabilized by emergency responders, his condition did not improve upon arrival at the hospital. "Sadly, the victim in the hit-and-run collision involving a school crossing guard has died," the police spokesperson confirmed, expressing condolences to the family and community.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation into the hit-and-run remains active, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. The incident has sparked renewed calls for increased vigilance and safety protocols in school zones across Ottawa. As the community mourns this loss, authorities are committed to pursuing justice for the victim and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
