Man Charged in Hate-Motivated Church Vandalism; Fatal Crash Info Sought

A 45-year-old Toronto man has been charged in connection with a suspected hate-motivated mischief investigation after a North York church was vandalized on multiple occasions. The incidents occurred between August 6, 2025, and May 5, 2026, according to Toronto Police.

Details of the Vandalism

The accused allegedly attended a church located in the Don Mills Road and Fairview Mall Drive area several times over the nine-month period. On each occasion, police allege that the individual damaged the outer glass doors of the church before fleeing the scene. The repeated targeting of the religious property prompted authorities to treat the case as a hate-motivated offense.

On May 5, 2026, Sohrab Mehmandoust was arrested and charged with four counts of mischief related to religious property. Police released a statement on Monday confirming that the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated crime.
