Fatal Collision on Wayne Gretzky Drive Claims Life of 41-Year-Old Man

Edmonton police are investigating a tragic incident that occurred Thursday morning on Wayne Gretzky Drive, where a 41-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while checking on his own truck.

According to police, at approximately 11:50 a.m., patrol officers responded to a two-vehicle collision near 106 Avenue and Wayne Gretzky Drive. The victim was driving a 2007 Ford F550 southbound on the freeway when he pulled over into the neutral space between the 106 Street off-ramp lane and the remaining southbound lanes.

The man exited his vehicle and walked behind it to inspect it. At that moment, a 2025 Ford F350, also traveling southbound, struck him. Emergency crews arrived at the scene, but the 41-year-old driver of the F550 was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 32-year-old driver of the Ford F350 remained at the scene and did not report any injuries. The Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigations Section is continuing to probe the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that neither speed nor alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with dash camera footage of the collision to contact EPS at 780-423-4567. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
