Windsor police are investigating a possible connection between a pellet gun shooting on Monday and the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy over the weekend. The incidents occurred in the same neighborhood, raising concerns about potential retaliation.
Pellet Gun Attack Under Scrutiny
On April 27, shortly after 9 p.m., officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the 1500 block of Goyeau Street. At the scene, they discovered multiple holes in a home's windows consistent with a pellet gun. No injuries were reported. Two masked suspects were seen firing the weapon before fleeing north on Goyeau Street and entering a white Ford Flex, according to police.
Possible Link to Homicide
The shooting occurred on the same block where an 18-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday in connection with the stabbing death of a teenager. Police are actively working to determine if the incidents are related. In a social media post, the Windsor Police Service stated, “Acts of retaliation or intimidation that place the public at risk will not be tolerated and will be thoroughly investigated.”
Details of the Stabbing
On Sunday at around 6 p.m., police found a 16-year-old boy suffering from a life-threatening stab wound in the 300 block of Tecumseh Road East. The victim, identified by a GoFundMe page as Shane Cushman, was later pronounced dead. The suspect, 18-year-old Hatem Hameed, has been charged with first-degree murder, uttering threats to cause death, and wearing a face mask in the commission of an offence. He remains in custody with a next court appearance scheduled for May 7.
