Windsor police have taken a suspect into custody following an incident involving identity fraud and a residential break-in. The investigation began after a home in the 3100 block of Fletcher Crescent was reported broken into just after 10 a.m. on April 25.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the suspect allegedly entered a vehicle parked at the home the previous evening and stole a wallet, headphones, a baby stroller, and a garage door opener. Using the stolen opener, the suspect gained access to the garage and stole an extension cord. The stolen credit card was then used to make more than $600 in fraudulent purchases at various businesses across the city.
Identification and Arrest
Members of the Windsor Police Target Base Unit analyzed surveillance footage to identify the 31-year-old male suspect. Officers located and arrested the man around 5 p.m. on May 12 in the 2600 block of Howard Avenue. He now faces multiple charges, including:
- Break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
- Theft under $5,000
- Four counts of possession of property obtained by crime not exceeding $5,000
- Four counts of possession or use of a credit card obtained by offence
- Four counts of fraud not exceeding $5,000
Second Suspect Arrested
A second suspect was arrested a day earlier at a bank in the 2600 block of Tecumseh Road East. Police responded to a report of a fraud in progress and allegedly found the suspect with stolen identification. This individual now faces 12 charges.
