During a wide-ranging Thursday night interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, President Donald Trump made notable comments about Chinese President Xi Jinping's physical appearance, particularly his stature.
Trump's Remarks on Xi's Appearance
Trump stated, "But I say about him (Xi), that if you went to Hollywood and you looked for a leader of China to play a role in a movie ..." Hannity interjected, "Central casting." Trump agreed, saying, "He's central casting, you couldn't find a guy like him. Even his physical features, he's tall, very tall. Especially for this country, cause they tend to be a little bit shorter. You look at the military, I mean, the military today was incredible, that military marching was incredible. But no, if you went to Hollywood, you wouldn't find that. You're not gonna find a guy to play the role."
Trump acknowledged potential criticism, adding, "I mean, I'll get criticized, they always criticize me when I say good things about certain leaders."
Meeting Between Trump and Xi
Trump and Xi met behind closed doors on Thursday morning. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning posted on X that Xi told Trump "the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-U.S. relations." She wrote, "If it is handled properly, the bilateral relationship will enjoy overall stability. Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy."
Trump also told Hannity that during their conversations, Xi expressed willingness "to be of help" in negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war in Iran.
