Third Sexual Assault in Fish Creek Park Investigated by Calgary Police
Calgary police are investigating a third sexual assault in Fish Creek Park, prompting renewed safety concerns among residents and visitors. The latest incident adds to a troubling pattern of attacks in the popular urban green space, which spans over 13 square kilometers in the city's southwest.
The assault occurred on the morning of May 27, 2026, when a female victim was approached by an unknown male suspect while walking on a trail near the park's Bow Valley Ranch area. The suspect allegedly assaulted the victim before fleeing on foot. Police have not released a detailed description of the suspect but confirmed that he is believed to be in his 20s or 30s, with a slim build and dark hair.
This incident follows two similar assaults reported in Fish Creek Park earlier this year. In February, a woman was attacked near the park's Sikome Lake, and in March, another assault occurred near the Shannon Terrace area. All three incidents share similarities, leading investigators to suspect they may be connected.
Calgary Police Service has increased patrols in the park and is urging the public to remain vigilant. “We are taking these incidents very seriously and are dedicating significant resources to identify and apprehend the suspect,” said Inspector Sarah Thompson in a press conference. “We encourage park users to travel in groups, stay on well-used trails, and report any suspicious activity immediately.”
Fish Creek Park, one of Canada's largest urban parks, attracts millions of visitors annually for hiking, cycling, and wildlife viewing. The recent attacks have sparked calls for enhanced safety measures, including better lighting, more emergency call boxes, and increased police presence.
Community members have expressed concern. “It's unsettling because this park is a gem for our city, and people should feel safe here,” said local resident Maria Lopez. “I hope the police catch this person soon.”
Police are asking anyone with information about the assaults to contact them at 403-266-1234 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers. They also advise park visitors to carry a phone, avoid isolated areas, and be aware of their surroundings.
The investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided as more details become available.
