Saskatchewan RCMP have charged a 25-year-old man with manslaughter following a homicide in the northern community of Turnor Lake. The charges come after police responded to a report of an injured woman at a residence early Friday morning.
Incident Details
According to a news release from Buffalo Narrows RCMP, officers received a report of an injured female at a home in Turnor Lake at 2:55 a.m. on Friday, May 8. Police from Buffalo Narrows and La Loche responded to the scene and located the injured woman. A male suspect was arrested outside the home.
Emergency medical services arrived and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Shalayah Montgrand, also from Turnor Lake. Police have notified her family, and victim services have been made available to them.
Investigation and Charges
The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit has taken over the case. Following their investigation, 25-year-old Darian Montgrand has been charged with one count of manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear by CCTV in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 11 at 10 a.m.
RCMP have not released further details about the circumstances leading to the woman's death. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident has shaken the small community of Turnor Lake, located approximately 600 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon. Local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
