Calgary police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspect vehicle connected to a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this week in the parking lot of a northeast Calgary grocery store. The incident took place at the North Hill Co-op located at 520 16 Avenue N.E. on Monday evening.
Details of the Incident
Police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 7:50 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to hospital, where one man later succumbed to his injuries. The other victim remains in stable condition.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Leslie Babajid Cole, a Calgary resident known to police. According to Staff Sgt. Mike Shute of the Calgary Police Service homicide unit, Cole was the intended target of the shooting. The surviving victim is believed to be an innocent bystander inadvertently caught in the violence.
Suspect Vehicle Description
In a news release issued Thursday, police released CCTV images of a white SUV believed to be involved in the shooting. The vehicle is described as having a partially broken passenger-side rear window that has been taped over. Authorities are searching for two male suspects in connection with the incident, which they believe was targeted.
Appeal for Dash Cam Footage
Homicide detectives are seeking dash cam footage from the area of 504 16th Avenue N.E., heading eastbound toward Strathmore, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on May 11. Police emphasize that community support is crucial in addressing gun violence.
