StatCan Official: No Need to Panic Over Missing Census Mail
No Panic Needed for Missing Census Mail: StatCan

Geoff Bowlby, assistant chief statistician for Statistics Canada, is urging Canadians not to worry if they have not yet received their census mail. In a statement, Bowlby emphasized that there is no reason to panic, as the census delivery process is ongoing and reminders will be sent to those who have not responded.

Census Delivery Underway

Statistics Canada began mailing census packages in early May, but some households may experience delays due to logistical challenges. Bowlby noted that the agency is working diligently to ensure all Canadians receive their forms. Those who have not received their mail by the end of May can expect a reminder letter or can complete the census online using a secure access code.

Online Options Available

For those concerned about missing the deadline, Bowlby highlighted that the census can be completed online without the physical form. Canadians can visit the Statistics Canada website to request a new access code or use the telephone assistance line for support. The online option is secure and convenient, ensuring everyone can participate.

Bowlby also addressed questions about the census's importance, stating that accurate data is crucial for planning public services, funding allocations, and community programs. He encouraged all residents to respond promptly, whether by mail or online, to ensure their community is accurately represented.

Statistics Canada expects full participation and assures that missing the initial mail is not a problem. The agency has contingency plans in place, including follow-up calls and visits from enumerators, to reach non-respondents. Bowlby reiterated that there is no need for alarm and thanked Canadians for their cooperation.
