A man is facing several charges after allegedly shooting himself during an attempted home invasion in Hamilton, police say.

Incident Details

According to Hamilton Police, officers responded to a report of a break-and-enter in progress at a residential address on the evening of May 2, 2026. Upon arrival, they found a male suspect suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect had allegedly forced his way into the home and, during the confrontation, accidentally discharged a firearm, striking himself.

Charges Laid

The 34-year-old man has been charged with break and enter, possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose, and careless use of a firearm. He was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
