An infant is among several pedestrians who sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in North York on Sunday evening, Toronto paramedics report. The incident occurred near the intersection of Finch Avenue West and Keele Street around 5:30 p.m.
Details of the Incident
Paramedics transported the infant to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two other adults were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
Investigation Underway
Toronto police have launched an investigation into the crash. The cause of the collision is not yet known, but officers are canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. No charges have been laid at this time.
This incident adds to a series of pedestrian-related collisions in the Greater Toronto Area. Earlier this week, a man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Scarborough. Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, especially in busy urban areas.
Pedestrian safety advocates have called for increased measures, including lower speed limits and better crosswalk infrastructure. The city has implemented several Vision Zero initiatives aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities, but advocates argue more needs to be done.
The infant’s family has requested privacy as they focus on recovery. The hospital has not released an update on the child’s condition.
