Hannity and Conway Slam Maine Candidate, Critics Point to Trump
Hannity, Conway Attack Platner; Critics Cite Trump

Fox News personalities Sean Hannity and Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday launched a fierce attack against Graham Platner, the Democratic Senate candidate in Maine. However, their criticism prompted many observers to draw comparisons to President Donald Trump.

Platner's Controversies

Platner has faced a series of scandals, including a New York Times report detailing accusations of unsettling behavior toward women he dated. He has a Nazi tattoo, a history of offensive Reddit posts, and reportedly sent explicit messages to women other than his wife. Platner has attributed his actions to post-traumatic stress disorder and expressed a commitment to self-improvement.

Hannity and Conway's Remarks

During the segment, Hannity questioned whether there was any line Platner could cross before the Democratic Party would withdraw support. Conway, who managed Trump's 2016 campaign and served in his White House, responded, “Oh, he crossed the lines a long time ago. But the Democrats keep moving that line, the line of morality, decency, truth, transparency.” She called Platner “crackers” and asserted that Democrats support him solely to flip a Senate seat and gain power, adding, “And power for power’s sake is the definition of corruption.”

Critics Highlight Hypocrisy

Conway had employed a similar argument after Platner's primary win, questioning if there was a “magic number” of scandals that would end Democratic support. She did not mention the numerous controversies surrounding Trump, including a sexual abuse liability, extensive history of lying, and corruption allegations.

Critics quickly responded on social media, accusing Hannity and Conway of hypocrisy. Mehdi Hasan tweeted, “Every accusation is a…” Hemant Mehta wrote, “On Earth 2, they’ve never heard of Donald Trump.” Others echoed the sentiment, with one user asking, “They’re talking about Trump, right?” and another stating, “These people simply have no shame or souls. For them to say this is hypocrisy on a cosmic scale.”

The backlash underscores the perceived double standard in criticizing Platner while defending Trump, who has faced far more extensive allegations.
