Fox News Host Greg Gutfeld Mocks NDP's 'Equity Cards' and Jokes About Northern Border Wall
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld expressed astonishment as he reviewed highlights from the recent NDP leadership convention held in Winnipeg. The event, which took place over the weekend, featured a controversial system of "equity cards" that has sparked widespread debate and mockery.
Equity Cards and Identity Politics
Before the party selected filmmaker Avi Lewis as its new leader, delegates were issued equity cards based on identity categories such as gender, race, ethnicity, LGBTQ+ status, and Indigenous heritage. These cards, color-coded in pink, yellow, and green, allowed holders to skip to the front of lines to ensure equitable representation during debates.
Gutfeld mocked the NDP for what he described as "trying to solve the white dude plague" by "playing the race and gender cards." He highlighted various complaints from attendees, including issues with closed captioning speeds, lack of pens, and microphone stand heights. In a particularly pointed moment, he played a clip where a participant misgendered chair Adrienne Smith, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.
"Anything to get her into the carpool lane," Gutfeld quipped in response to Smith's correction.Mockery of Election Outcome
Gutfeld further chided the NDP for electing Avi Lewis, a white man, after a weekend heavily focused on identity politics. "After an entire weekend focused on identity politics, they elected a white dude. I wonder what his pronouns are? Douche and bag?" he joked. He added, "Not only does socialism fail in theory. It fails in practice. The last time the world laughed this hard at Canada is when our hockey team beat them like a rented moose."
Reflecting on the NDP's political standing, Gutfeld noted that the party was Canada's main opposition in 2011 but now holds a distant third place. He suggested that their embrace of equity cards might be linked to this decline. "Sound familiar? ... The modern left in America and now Canada placed one issue above all: Identity. Forget crime, illegals, homelessness ... their strategy? Equity cards," he said.
Social Media Reaction and Broader Implications
The convention's equity card system made headlines globally, with outlets like the Daily Mail referring to it as the "Oppression Olympics." Social media influencer Collin Rugg shared videos from the event with his 2.3 million followers, commenting, "Good to see Canada arguing over the issues that matter." OutKick likened the proceedings to a "real-life SNL sketch," stating it was too absurd to be invented.
On platforms like Reddit, longtime NDP supporters expressed disappointment. One user wrote, "Genuinely thinking of stopping voting for the NDP until they get inevitably wiped out and have to reset." Another added, "This is a major reason why the NDP has lost working-class voters and union workers." A third lamented, "I was a longtime NDP supporter, but this is just embarrassing and ridiculous."
In his monologue, Gutfeld concluded with a provocative suggestion: "Which means maybe it's time for us to build a wall along the northern border." This remark underscored his view that extreme leftist policies, as exemplified by the NDP's convention, could pose a problem if they gain power.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions around identity politics and their impact on political discourse, both in Canada and internationally.
