Girl, 4, Dies After SUV Hits Her in North Edmonton

A four-year-old girl has died after being struck by an SUV in north Edmonton, according to police.

The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 5:15 p.m. in a parking lot near 66 Street and 170 Avenue. The girl was walking with her mother when she broke free and ran onto 66 Street, where a Jeep hit her.

Bystanders attempted to resuscitate the child before emergency medical services arrived. She was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The driver, a 23-year-old woman, remained at the scene. Police have stated that speed and impairment are not believed to have contributed to the collision.
