CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten delivered grim news for President Donald Trump on Friday, revealing that the MAGA leader has not seen a single poll with a positive net approval rating since March 2025. Speaking on 'News Central,' Enten presented his own aggregate of polling data, showing Trump's net average approval plummeting from +6 in January 2025 to -9 in August 2025, and now to a disastrous -20—officially the lowest point of his second term.
No Positive Polls in Over a Year
When co-host Sara Snider asked about individual polls, Enten noted that every poll since March 29, 2025—more than a year ago—has shown a net negative approval rating. 'That is 413 days in a row,' he said. 'Trump has been underwater, not just in the aggregate, but every single poll.'
Link to Iran War and Gas Prices
Enten attributed this steep decline to Trump's war on Iran and soaring gas prices. He highlighted a CNN/SSRS poll conducted from April 30 to May 4, which included a graphic titled 'The Net Effect On Your Personal Finances.' The results were stark: the tax law was 16 points underwater, tariffs were 49 points underwater, and the Iran war's effect on personal finances was a staggering 67 points underwater. Only 8% of respondents said the Iran war had a positive effect, while 75% said it was negative. Additionally, 76% cited the cost of living as their top economic problem.
Enten explained that Trump's unpopular war led Iran to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil passes, driving up gas prices. 'No wonder Trump is underwater in every single poll,' he said. 'No wonder he's hitting new lows in the aggregate.'
He argued that voters elected Trump to boost the economy, but his policies have backfired. 'I mean, 67 points underwater? Whoosh,' Enten concluded.
