Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a CNN medical analyst who once served as cardiologist to the late Vice President Dick Cheney, made the demand on Monday. He specifically pointed to a letter Trump recently sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
In that correspondence, Trump appeared to connect his escalating public rhetoric about the United States seizing Greenland to his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize last year. The president also directed the letter to be distributed to other European nations, a fact Reiner highlighted as particularly troubling.

"This letter, and the fact that the president directed that it be distributed to other European countries, should trigger a bipartisan congressional inquiry into presidential fitness," Reiner wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on January 19, 2026.

"The president seems to be struggling with excessive daytime somnolence," Reiner noted in a separate post on X. "Repeatedly falling asleep with a dozen people surrounding your desk is not normal. It needs to be evaluated."
