Filmmaker Adam McKay shared his pick for the most detestable sect of the Democratic Party during a searing takedown of his former party that he delivered in a new podcast interview out Wednesday.
Having defected from the Democratic bloc following former Vice President Kamala Harris’ failed 2024 presidential campaign, McKay told “Urgent Futures” host Jesse Damiani that he thinks “no group” in the coalition is “worse than white liberals.”
“They are the worst,” he said. “I’ve tried to talk to them about the climate. They are so smug and captured. And, really, it boils down to privilege. I mean, when you talk to white moneyed liberals, they’re getting a lot from this broken system.”
The Oscar winner told Damiani that once he really examined what white liberals believe in, he discovered little difference between their political positions and that of Republicans.
“Once you kind of flip that switch and realize white liberals are full-on right-wingers and that the Republicans are extreme right-wingers, by any international definition of right/left wing, you can’t support a party that doesn’t want universal health care,” he explained. “The Democrats don’t have that in their party platform. Kamala Harris never brought it up.”
Also slamming the “Blue no matter who” stance many party loyalists continue to cling to, McKay added, “It is incredible to watch people this far down the road still say, ‘You gotta stand by the Democratic Party.’ The same party that wouldn’t convict Trump of a crime after he told a crowd, ‘Go to the Capitol’ [and] the same party where the previous presidential candidate, Hilary Clinton, literally funded Trump’s campaign.”
The director said he discovered long ago that it was fruitless to try to persuade such a privileged demographic, telling anyone considering making a case for progressive causes, “Best of luck to you, because you’re not gonna argue [with] them.”
“They’re coming from a place of they don’t care,” McKay went on, calling those voters hopelessly chained to their cushy status quo.
“They have privilege. They’re trying to stay in their class, social scene,” he said. “They’re more worried about their alumni cocktail hour and not stepping out of place.”
McKay also took Democratic Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to task, saying, “The level of damage those creeps have done to our country — but white liberals don’t even want to hear about it, because it’s inconvenient and unpleasant. So, yeah, I almost can say I despise American white liberals. They are the grossest of the gross.”
