Leamington Man Charged After Cyclist Collision

Essex County Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 36-year-old Leamington man following a motor vehicle collision with a cyclist that occurred in the early hours of May 10.

Incident Details

Around 2:19 a.m., OPP officers responded to the incident on Erie Street South near Coronation Avenue in the Municipality of Leamington. Police reported that the driver fled the scene but was located shortly after.

A 36-year-old cyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to OPP.

Charges Laid

The suspect has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
  • Operation causing bodily harm
  • Failure to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm

OPP also initiated a 90-day Administrative Driver's License Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Court Appearance

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on June 23.
