Fetterman Told Staff He Could Be VP in 2028

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) told his staff he thought he could be the vice presidential nominee on the Democratic ticket in 2028, prompting disbelief, New York Magazine’s Intelligencer reported Thursday.

“Almost all of us had our jaws on the floor, like, ‘Are you out of your fucking mind? You don’t do your job, you can’t raise any money, and your entire party hates you,’” a person who was in the room that day last summer told New York.

And that was after Fetterman had already been talking about running for president, according to staffers. Either prospect could charitably be called wishful thinking.

Fetterman’s unquestioning support for Israel and defense of President Donald Trump’s war against Iran has surged his plummet in popularity among Pennsylvania Democrats since 2023.

“He’s down there with the Titanic,” CNN poll wonk Harry Enten said in late March.

This week Fetterman was the lone Democrat to vote against a War Powers Resolution aimed at forcing Trump to withdraw from the war. The legislation advanced.

The senator has seen notable turnover in his office. Cabelle St. John became his third chief of staff to leave since he became senator.

Fetterman’s questionable aspirations surfaced in a story that was primarily about the influence of one of his advisers, David “Dovi” Safier. Read the entire story here.
