The Colorado Republican Party is facing severe financial difficulties and internal strife, with its gubernatorial primary front-runner, Victor Marx, drawing attention for extraordinary claims made in a recent interview.
Extraordinary Claims in Interview
Marx, a self-described 'high-risk missionary,' sat down with 9News' Kyle Clark and made several startling assertions. He claimed to have been forced to kill a man at age 7, took credit for rescuing 43 missing children in Florida without providing proof, and said he performs exorcisms over the phone.
When Clark asked if Marx had killed people as an adult, Marx responded, 'Does it matter?' He also declined to address a claim about calling in a military airstrike that killed 70 Islamic State fighters.
Response from Current Governor
Current Colorado Governor Jared Polis (D) responded with a quip: 'I have killed zero people, and you can take that to the bank.'
Marx's campaign website previously claimed he rescued more than 45,000 women and children, but that claim has been removed. He could not provide evidence for his rescue claims.
Context of Colorado GOP
The Colorado Republican Party is broke and paralyzed by infighting. The previous GOP gubernatorial candidate, Heidi Ganahl, made false claims about children using litter boxes in schools—a lie that masked the reality that some schools stock cat litter for students during lockdowns.
Clark shared clips of the interview on social media, which went viral. The full 30-minute interview is available on 9News.
