U.S. Military Targets Iranian Missile Sites in Self-Defence Strikes

The United States has launched strikes against Iranian missile launch sites and boats near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the action as 'self-defence strikes.' This development comes as Iranian negotiators met with Qatari mediators in Doha for war talks, and the impact on the fragile ceasefire remains uncertain.

According to CENTCOM spokesman Timothy Hawkins, 'U.S. forces conducted self-defence strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines.' Hawkins emphasized that the U.S. Central Command continues to defend its forces while exercising restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.

Escalation Amid Ceasefire Negotiations

The conflict in the Middle East has now entered its 88th day. American and Iranian forces have previously exchanged fire during the ceasefire, with the most recent incident occurring in early May when U.S. forces attacked Iranian military facilities responsible for launching a series of 'unprovoked' missile, drone, and small boat attacks against American warships in the strait.
